Here at KenputerGuru we encourage our customers to ask questions. It is our pleasure to share our experience and expertise with our clientele and our opinions and answers are always free of charge.  Because  of this we would like to answer one of our most frequently asked questions. Many customers come in to the shop and their computer has reached the end of its useful life and they ask:

What computer should I buy?

A: This is one of the most difficult questions to answer because it is very personal. When asking the question: “What computer should I buy.” You need to ask these questions as well.What type of computer user am I? Do I need to have my computer with me all the time wherever I go, do I just need occasional mobility or I am going to use my computer in one place in my home or office?  Do I just check my e-mail, write an occasional letter and surf the Internet to find the best deal on something to buy, or do I spend more time on the Internet on the social networks playing Internet games and talking with friends and family all over the world on Skype? Do I need the superior performance of a high end gaming machine not because I am a gamer but because I need and want to utilize high performance software? Do I just want a fast computer because I am sick of waiting !

All of these questions are relevant to the type and performance of a computer and the components you choose will affect the price. We always inform our customers that you can get more performance from a desktop computer than a laptop for the same price point. Laptop computers have evolved and can possess the same power and performance as some of the fastest desktop computers but placing the same high performance components in a smaller platform makes the system significantly more expensive. So if you want high performance and great graphics and do not need mobility buy a desktop computer; you can save a lot of money.

Laptops are great and can be very inexpensive compared to just a few years ago. To help you in your decision rate the following items by importance:

__Performance (the speed of the computer)
__Screen Size (laptop displays range from 8” to 19” what size is comfortable for you)
__Weight (laptops can weigh anywhere between 2.5lbs and 12.5lbs)
__Storage (hard drive space, what are you keeping stored on the computer)
__Battery Life (how long will this system be without power)
__Accessories (DVD player, Video Camera, Biometrics).

When rating each of these items you may discover that what you really want and need is a desktop computer or you will be able to shorten your list of potential laptop candidates. At the very least you will be able to direct the sales representative at the local computer shop in the right direction.
