WINDOWS 7—Tested and WOW!!!

KenputerGuru has had the opportunity to take the new Microsoft Operating System, Windows 7, for a pedal to the metal test drive and all we can say is WOW! The product has been put through it’s paces from Beta Release 1 through the release candidates to the full version release (scheduled for October 22, 2009).

Lets start by noting that Windows 7 is faster and easier to use. The WOW factor is found in several new features both large and small and there are advantages for both home users and business. Our most relevant findings include the refinement of the installation and the software's ability to recognize and install your existing hardware drivers. In our test environment the new system was put to the challenge of being installed on computers  old an new. The oldest machine was an 8 year old laptop and Windows 7 located and installed all of the drivers required to run this computer flawlessly. On new computers less than 3 months old the same was true. We never had to venture to the Internet to locate any drivers for the machines we installed the OS (operating system) on. What all this means to you is one less call to us.

Next and maybe even more importantly was the performance of Windows 7. Even meagerly powered computers performed at least as well or slightly better then they did with their original operating systems installed. Boot times (the time it takes the computer to start and be ready for input) have been reduced from the Windows 7 predecessor and end user functionality has been made more accessible and understandable. For example local network sharing of printer and files has been addressed through a function known as HomeGroup. HomeGroup uses a shared key (password) to allow all computers located on the same private network to easily and flawlessly connect to shared resources (printers and files).

Lets not forget business users. In our test environment domain we utilized Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 to set up a new communication interface know as Direct Access. No longer do we have to deal with slow VPN (virtual private network) connections to access company data. With Direct Access the mobile users computer is always connected to the company domain allowing the user to have seamless access to company resources and also allows IT staff to manage the users computer even while the computer is out of the office.

Windows 7 has gobs of amazing new features and stability unmatched by any of the past Windows Operating Systems.

When you are ready to upgrade your home computer or your company's  systems, hardware or software, KenputerGuru is ready to help. Planning and installation all at a competitive price and our work is always Guaranteed.
